Description: The historical development of the ecclesiastic organisation, from the Apostolic and post-apostolic period, until today, based on the ecclesiology and canon as this developed from Holy Scripture and the teachings of the Church Fathers, according to the Ecumenical Synods. This includes the Metropolitan system and the traditional laws of the Churches of Roman, Alexandria and Antioch and the special status of Church of Jerusalem as per the role of the 1st Canon of the Nicean Ecumenical Synod in the Foundational Synod of Antioch (341 AD). Next, there is a study of the decisions of the 2nd Ecumenical Synod and the great Churches of Rome, Alexandria, Antioch and Jerusalem and the Church of New Rome (Constantinople), including the developing Metropolitan and great-Metropolitans of standing. There is also reference to the decisions of the 4th Ecumenical Synod and the development of the tradition of Pentarchia of Patriarchates, as created in the Ecumenical Synods.
